The Requirements

To be a strong fit for this opportunity you will have:
  • Four year college or university program certificate; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Two to four years of related sales experience and/or training. Automotive / power tool experience will be a bonus but is not required. Quick question for you - click here
  • Bilingual English / Spanish skills are highly preferred. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write presentations, reports and emails. 
  • The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Strong follow-up and documentation skills. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook Contact Management systems; Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.

This is a 12-18 month role that will allow you to get your foot in the door at Makita and establish a long-term career. Prove yourself here, and you’ll have the ability to move into a National Account Manager position. 

Our ideal candidate will be located in the Dallas, Texas area. You’ll spend approximately 2-3 days out of the week out on the road, conducting your trainings and open houses and meeting with customers in order to close deals and get our products into our automotive customers’ hands. When you are not out in the field, you can work out of your home office or come into our facility in the area that is also equipped with a training center. You’ll spend that office time making your strategic plan, booking your travel, following-up with key contacts and more. 

The Role

Reporting directly to the National Account Manager, Automotive, you will be responsible for expanding Makita’s Automotive Sales through significant end user growth in partnership with National Automotive dealers.  In conjunction with your manager, you will develop a standard presentation to deliver to a variety of automotive end users, national dealers, distributors,  and sales representatives.

You’ll focus your activities on several key areas:
  • 
Representing and promoting our brand through in-house trainings primarily at Auto Zone, Sherwin Williams and other National Dealers.

  • Conducting open house events to meet directly with potential customers to further educate them about our portfolio of tools. 
  • Working directly with sales professionals throughout the country to help them sell our products to their top customers. 
  • Providing support to the automotive team at top shows and events. 
You’ll serve as the key point of contact for our National Accounts, answering questions, conducting trainings, following-up on inquiries, doing ride-alongs and so much more. 

Your essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Creates and discusses strategic growth sales plans where aggressive opportunities may be present.
  • 
Develops and maintains relationships with key end user decision-makers.
Investigates and resolves customer problems.

  • Stays on top or market changes and competitive activities within accounts.
  • 
Attends trade shows, open houses, and training classes.
Identifies largest tool consumers within the Automotive segments for their geographic market.

  • Determines and executes methods of establishing productive relationships with key end user decision makers.

  • Builds conversions to Makita with the largest Automotive end user customers through product trialing, promotional tactics, and value selling.

Demonstrates product through use of samples and catalog, and emphasizes salable features.
  • 
Collaborates with key National Automotive partner dealers to coordinate transactions, recruit support within other end users, and to establish oneself as the key “go to” tool provider within their Market.
  • Executes National End User Account actions based on collaboration with dealer and Makita National Account personnel.
  • Estimates date of delivery to the customer, based on knowledge of company’s and/or dealer’s delivery schedules.

Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
  • 
Presents, executes and administers Corporate Sales Programs when appropriate.

  • Works with the Administrative team to ensure catalog levels and Marketing support needs are present.
  • Coordinates customer training by scheduling and organizing demo events, shows, etc. within assigned territory and upon management request.
  • Manages demo tool inventory to ensure a balance between effective sampling of our product and retention of physical assets.
