Why Makita

Autonomy, ownership and impact
We'll look to you to assume ownership of this role and achieve your goals independently. For example, you'll schedule all of your meetings and travel and track your expenses along the way. Of course, we'll provide support when you need it and your manager is a tenured Makita employee who is dedicated to the success of each member on the team. You'll evaluate current strategies and activities, recommend changes, and execute on your ideas.

Professional development
This role will allow you to showcase your potential, develop your career within the organization and enjoy the resources and camaraderie of the overall sales organization.

Stability and growth
Makita has a strong financial profile and we remained profitable even through the recession. One reason for this stability is a strong brand: visit any construction site, and you're sure to encounter a variety of Makita tools. Our quality and performance have earned us a strongly respected reputation within the contractor community, which has persistently grown throughout our history and is certain to endure for many years to come as we continue to lead the industry with the introduction of high quality, innovative tools.

Steady stream of innovative new products
With strong support from Makita corporate leaders and R&D in Japan, we are expanding our cordless product line, bringing out innovative products to set us apart from the competition. For example, we recently released a canister vacuum, and we're about to introduce a backpack vacuum that we believe will be very attractive. Behind that is a robust pipeline that will provide you with the excitement of a new product every three or four months. We're also greatly expanding our outdoor product offerings, including a new blower.

Support the move to "Go Green"
In today's world, it's becoming more and more important to think green. Many companies are moving from gas-powered to cordless products across their building, maintenance and other needs, and Makita is aggressively innovating in this area. You can feel good knowing that you are supporting quality products that are better for the planet.

Great people
Our employees are the cornerstone of our success; in fact, if you ask any of our long-tenured staff as to why they've stayed on the team for 20+ years, more often than not they'll say it's their peers. The Makita team, they say, is made up of some of the most appreciative and supportive -- not to mention talented -- professionals they've ever worked with.

Excellent compensation
In addition to a competitive salary and bonus incentive program, we offer one of the most generous benefits packages in our industry, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; 401(k) and profit sharing plans; paid time off; tuition reimbursement, and more. We'll also provide a company vehicle, laptop and expense reimbursement. Quick question for you - click here

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will have strong interpersonal skills, developed business acumen and a keen sense of organizational structure. You’ll concentrate on building relationships with the key decision makers within these large companies, and sometimes that can be like putting together a challenging puzzle or navigating through a maze. It will be essential that you can effectively cold call and identify the correct decision makers (typically Superintendents, Operations Officers, Tool Procurement Professionals, Safety Managers, etc.) that are required to move forward with the sales cycle. You could make several phone calls before you identify the correct person to speak with about Makita’s product line--meaning you’ll need to have tenacity, thick skin and strong self-motivation.

Given the diversity of the role, you'll need to be comfortable wearing different hats; in the morning you may be donning your hard hat and boots and heading to a job site and then spend the afternoon meeting with a high-level executive decision maker. As an experienced professional in sales and business development, you understand the importance of timing, knowing when to hit the gas and when to tap on the brakes.

In addition, in order to be an outstanding National Contractor Accounts Territory Sales Manager, you will:
  • Establish trust quickly in order to position yourself as a consulting expert
  • Convey clearly how our solutions can help our customers achieve their goals, focusing on the win-win aspects
  • Bring high energy and the ability to manage multiple activities and priorities
  • Combine creativity and analytical skills in solving problems
