The Requirements

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:
  • A high school diploma; a college degree is preferred.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience with inventory control, production control, warehouse distribution or related experience in a Distribution Center environment. Quick question for you - click here

  • Excellent math aptitude in order to accurately work with figures and record keeping.
  • WMS experience; Red Prairie or Manhattan a plus. Experience with WMS implementations and go-lives will be an advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build a high-performing team through supervising personnel, identifying skill sets and utilizing team talent to optimize productivity and efficiencies.

The Role

Reporting to the Distribution Center Manager, as the Inventory Control Supervisor you will be responsible for the Distribution Center’s (DC) operational inventory control functions of Makita Power Tools. Your goal will be to ensure our products are delivered on time, to the proper destination, in the quantity ordered, and with the agreed upon quality standards to be consistent with the expectations of the company and our customers. You will focus your efforts on two key areas: inventory control and leadership / employee development. 

You will oversee a team of approximately 12 inventory control employees in their duties reconciling reports between the legacy system and the WMS, conducting cycle counts, and other inventory control activities. We’re looking for an engaged leader who can help coach and mentor the team, guiding them to elevated levels of success.

The team is to meet customer expectations while managing costs. In addition to working closely with your group of direct reports, you’ll also partner with a counterpart Supervisor to manage the overall operations of the DC.

More specifically, you will:
  • Create policies and procedures (including SOP’s) for effective, efficient cycle counting activities and inventories for the DC while supervising and developing team of non-exempt personnel.
  • Supervise the inventory quality and accuracy assurance programs (OB audits), including weekly reporting.
  • Continually monitor and evaluate inventory levels providing recommendations for improving accuracy.
  • Create policy and SOP’s for addressing all inventory discrepancies at the root cause level, utilizing BPCS and other systems while working within a WMS environment. Quick question for you - click here
  •  Create policy and SOP’s for location management, space utilization and other reporting functions as it relates to inventory management to optimize speed of distribution between the four walls
  • Facilitate all physical inventories, working closely with the Distribution Center Manager and Team Leads.
  • Be responsible for planning, prioritizing and communicating directives to ensure efficiency and accuracy for cycle count activities, variance resolution, and physical inventories.
  • Assist Factory Service Center (FSC) in maintaining accurate inventory levels and the disposal of obsolete stock.
  • Assist the Purchasing Department in maintaining purchase receipts.
  • Assist Customer Service Department on occasion to provide research as needed.
  • Provide awareness and training to the entire operations that promote the importance of inventory counts and principles.
  • Proactively accept additional duties and/or responsibilities as directed by the Distribution Center Manager.
  • Be responsible for maintaining accurate records of all assigned inventory.
  • Handle all inventory paperwork and follow all procedures to meet company goals.
  • Verify all orders received and shipped and also ensures that the orders are properly accounted for in the WMS and ERP (BPCS) system.
  • Account for all defective or damaged product and follows up with appropriate action.
