Opportunity Snapshot

This position offers you the opportunity to join a relatively new, successful, and growing team representing a high-profile brand to dealers and manufacturers in a multi-state territory. While you will take over an established book of business, the territory includes a great deal of untapped potential. You'll come on board just as our recently launched wireless product line is adding new potential customers. Your success in this role could set you up to pursue a wide variety of career paths within Makita.

Your mission will be to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with factory contacts and dealers in a territory that includes parts of Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota; this will include promoting products to government and military facilities through key market dealer partner(s). The goal of these relationships will be to maximize the sales, market share, and profitability of our assembly tool product line, including power screwdrivers, nutrunners, impact drivers, and impact wrenches. You will work out of your home office (ideally in eastern Iowa), but you can expect to spend a great deal of your time calling on your customers.

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have at least three years of experience in assembly and manufacturing environments and the technical aptitude to understand the assembly-related flow within a factory. A background in sales is not required, but you will need excellent interpersonal skills, proven success building professional relationships, and the ability to deliver stand-up presentations. Our most successful field team members are those who can identify the challenge at hand and can empathize with the goals of the facility in order to drive toward a solution. We're looking for a professional with strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and presentation skills, as well as strong PC abilities, including word processing, spreadsheets, and other applications.

You'll join a great company whose commitment to quality and performance has earned us a strong reputation within the contractor community -- a reputation we are leveraging as we further penetrate the assembly tools community. We've built that reputation over the past 85 years by using the finest raw materials, the most advanced manufacturing equipment, and the most rigorous quality testing in the industry.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:

What's in It for You

Great work environment -- the Assembly Division works closely together, sharing successes and insights. In fact, the territory lines are not hard and fast, and you may travel outside your territory to support a colleague. The team, including the Vice President of Business Development, Assembly (who has 18 years of experience with Makita and to whom you will report), will be a valuable resource to you.

Autonomy -- if you are coming from a typical factory job, you will have more control over your own schedule in this role than you're probably used to. Nonetheless, time management will be critical. You definitely will spend time on the road (as much as 80%), but you seldom will work weekends.

Diverse customer base -- we target any mass producer utilizing threaded fasteners, meaning your sales will be resilient to slowdown in one or two verticals. Our customers come from a variety of industries, including automotive/truck, aircraft/aerospace, furniture, appliances, computer equipment, heavy equipment, medical equipment, recreational vehicles, and many others. You will work with companies like John Deere, Caterpillar, Polaris, and Case-New Holland, among many others.

Bold new product offerings -- we have introduced a product line incorporating wireless Bluetooth technology that helps factories collect and communicate data more effectively. This is a bold move into an entirely new category for Makita, and we already have demand for it.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and commission plan, you will enjoy a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; a 401(k) plan; vacation time; and tuition reimbursement. We'll pay expenses and provide a company vehicle and laptop.
